  BRCI Conference?? Tell me more...

  i just noticed that there's a brci conference (the one that amazing says he will attending) in the city i live in.. could anyone tell me exactly what a bfci conference is?.

  i would be even more grateful if anyone could tell me where in waterloo it is (it's likely at uw or wlu).. if it would be of benefit to me, i'm sure i would want to attend.. thanks,.

  The BRCI conference stands for Biblical Research and Commentary International to be held in Waterloo June 29 to July 1.

  it seems like to me the majority of people who are in the truth, are were in the truth was a result of either a family member are a friend witnessing to them and not many seem to have been found in the door to door work.. from my years of associating with the borg i cannot recall many coming in the truth from the door to door work.. how were you sucked in?

  for me it was my aunt who has now even though i am not disfellowshipped decided to write me out of her will to the tune of about $150,000.00 (maybe i should hang around a couple more years)dont think i will.. please respond .

  Great topic Big Jim:

  I just finished reading everyones' "beginning"....very interesting.

  My parents were reached in the d2d in the early 40's before I was born. They only took the book in the first place because they wanted to build a library, but were talked into a study and then baptism with the usual scare tactics that the big "A" was going to happen "real soon".

  I was born several years later and grew up with the anticipation that the big "A" was going to happen any day before I'd ever go to school, then High School, then graduate, then go to work, then get married, then have children and then the cycle started all over again with my children...now they're both married and I'm a new grandma.

  The funny thing?....my mom still says "the end is so close...any day now".

  So survey recap:
  My parents came in from d2d work, my brother was a baby at that time and I was born into it.

  My mother brought in about 3-4 that I can remember from the d2d work in the 50's.

  My father usually was asked to study with unbelieving husbands and boyfriends and brought everyone of them to baptism. (He was very kind and loving)

  My ex-husband was an RC who became a JW as a result of first reading a book I gave him written by an ex-Catholic priest exposing their dirty little skeletons of molestation in the church. (Wonder what he'll think when these same dirty little skeletons of the JW's get exposed!) [8>]

  Supplement to Justice #15 - Parking Lot

  hellow everyone: there were a number of responses to justice #15 about the parking lot dfing.

  i decided to make a new post to deal with these related but different issues.. first, the purpose of the post was not so much about rushing to judgment, but to show that the process is flawed, and the reflective question at the end shows that i was disturbed as to why we allowed these events to develop the way we do, especially over matters that really are not all that serious.. second, your follow-up comments also bring out some good additional concerns.

  i will address those that seem to be of greatest concern.

  Hello Amazing:

  I've read your posts of the df'ing account and your follow-up and again am glad you take the time to share these experiences with us. It accomplishes with me, and I'm sure so many others, what you are trying to do...to help us see clearer the elders are just men, many of them incompetent at that for the type of judgements they are required to make.

  I for one was very much of the category that whatever the elders decided was God's direction and decision, and therefore whatever their judgement of me, I accepted, even if I couldn't understand why. I felt, if I didn't understand something, it was because of my weakness or low level of spirituality, or I wasn't praying enough. This was all I had ever known, having been raised in the org. from birth.

  What a load off my shoulders to know I am not alone and that I can see the elders for what they are, and the whole system for what it is....victims of victims of victims, as has been already stated on this board.

  btw...what day will you be giving your presentation at the BRCI?..I'm not too far from there.

  Thanks again for all your work at presenting these accounts for our benefit.

  this person mentioned they thought they were alone untile they read the victims page.

  Hello again silentlambs:

  I don't personally know anyone who has ever been abused nor ever talked to one.

  My only "knowledge" of this has been from, I'm sorry to say, movies, but the ones I have seen have been so explicit and yet non-sensational so that I could get somewhat of a clue as to the pain these poor victims have gone through.

  I can only imagine what suffering they have endured and to also feel they are alone is devastating.

  My heart goes out to them as they not only have suffered betrayal by their attacker but also by their supposedly "protectors" and have become double victims.

  Such a shameful skeleton to be coming out of the WTS closet...it looks good on them.

  I notice that I picked up on the same statement you mentioned in one of your posts...
  

  The Brooklyn headquarter of the Watchtower Society is pro German in an exemplary way and has been so for many years. For that reason, in 1918, the president of the Society and seven members of the board of directors were sentenced to 80 years in prison, because the president refused to use two of the magazines published in America under his direction for war propaganda against Germany. These two magazines, "The Watchtower" and "Bible Student" were the only magazines in America which refused to engage in anti-German propaganda and for that reason were prohibited and suppressed in America during the war.

  That's funny...I just don't remember reading in the Insight Book that the WTS was pro-any country let alone Germany at that time, (translated at Hitler), and that that was the reason the big kahunas were sent to prison in 1918 or something. I thought it was for a more "noble" reason like they were "neutral" and the Amer. gov't didn't like it.. Hmmm must have missed it.

  Is there no end to the nonsense this org has pulled that I, and millions of others, don't know about.

  I may just run out of disc space collecting and saving all this info of the dung heap I've caught a whiff of.

  JW's And Risque Mnemonics.

  do folk in the united states use mnemonics as we do here in the uk?.

  just in case youre wondering, a mnemonic is a method by which it becomes easy to remember something, especially if it involves a table or sequence.

  most uk mnemonics have a vulgar or sexual connotation, so their use is somewhat frowned upon in jw circles.. when number 2 son was studying geology, it was essential that he remembered the hardness order of various minerals.

  Yes LDH:

  "Every good boy deserves fudge" are the names of the line notes in the treble clef and the spaces spell "FACE".

  And for the bass clef its: "Good Boys Do Fine Always" for the lines and "All Cows Eat Grass" for the spaces. My little female music pupil doesn't like the gender preference, so I said I'd come up with one for girls to remember their line notes.

  The one I liked too was for the succession of Major Key Signatures from having 1 sharp to all 7 sharps as: "Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle".

  Well that's my music contribution for today.

  Why DO they stay?

  there is much discussion of the "dumbness" of those still in and the reason that they stay.. some of the reasons that i have seen are:.

  they want everything in black and white.. they prefer to leave thinking to others.. they are scared to be shunned.. they are just ignorant souls who are on the "opium of the people".

  they dont want others to think bad of them.. while i agree that there is no one single reason and that everyone is different, i feel that the real reason is a much deeper one.

  Most of the literature from the WTS is presented in a "textbook" fashion, which impressively convinces people that the contained information must be correct.

  So you end up with people who are seeking a future being given "factual" information and regular "pump ups" necessary to continue the falacious thinking which leads them to believe that they do indeed "know" their future

  Yes indeed...knowing the future as it was "prophecied in the Bible", his promises, his word...was the strongest hold on me fortified by all the "fulfilled prophecies" before us as proof these promises would also come true.

  And we felt so privileged to be among those who would "never grow old in this system"..."everlasting life, eternal youth, paradise", promises all backed up with "factual" information. Yes we were human and we trusted other humans we believed were guided by holy spirit. How wrong could they be if they're getting this "factual" information from God?

  That, I believe, is why so many of those still in still remain....they're still convinced they're being told the truth by these "humans", some of whom, are probably still humanly hanging on the the beliefs themselves while the remainder are just true-blue borg men.
